    What is a CCRC?
    At Simpson House, we are a Continuing Care Retirement Community, which means we can provide a continuum of care and services as needs change. Residents can move between Independent Living, Personal Care, Memory Support, and Rehabilitation as they may need. CCRCs can help offset high medical care costs. Residents have the peace of mind that their needs will be taken care of no matter what.

    Will I have to change doctors?
    No, you can continue to use your own physician or you may use one of the physicians who keep office hours right here at Simpson House.

    Do residents own their apartment?
    No, residents do not own their apartments. However, you may personalize your apartment through renovations and upgrades. Benefits also include freedom from personal property tax burdens, major appliance upkeep and home maintenance.

    What do monthly fees cover?
    Monthly fees cover all of the following:

    • Activities
    • Transportation
    • Entertainment
    • Maintenance services
    • Snow Removal
    • Use of our Wellness Center
    • Concierge Service
    • Heating and air conditioning in each apartment
    • All utilities

    Can I decorate my apartment anyway I want?
    Of course! We encourage you to bring your own style into your apartment or cottage. You can also choose to upgrade your countertops, cabinets, and carpeting — as well as choose your own paint colors.

    What if I need medical attention for an illness or injury?
    Medical assistance is always available at Simpson House through our Wellness Center where medical professionals are onsite 24 hours a day. We always offer Personal Care, Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing services. If a resident is in need of emergency care or hospitalization, Simpson House is located near several hospitals such as the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. Residents can feel safe with a call system in their unit should they ever require emergency assistance.

    What’s the difference between Independent Living and the other residential options?
    Independent Living residents at Simpson House continue to enjoy their independent lifestyle, as we make life a little easier by providing home maintenance, upkeep, and repair. We also offer on-site services and amenities for residents to enjoy. As a Continuing Care Retirement Community, residents have a full continuum of care and a choice of residential options to meet changing health care needs. Rest easy knowing that Personal Care, short- and long-term rehabilitation, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing are always available on campus.

    Can I have guests?
    Our community is your home, so visitors are welcome 24/7. Invite your friends, family, grand children, and other loved ones any time you want.

    Can I bring my pet?
    Of course. Pets are part of our family at Simpson House. We even have a visiting veterinarian, Dr. Thomas M. Pickard, VMD. He visits Simpson House every month to care for the dogs and cats who enhance the lives of Simpson House residents. Dr. Pickard’s service, Allpets Housecalls, has been providing quality veterinary care in his clients’ homes for more than 20 years. It’s convenient for the pets’ owners and significantly reduces the stress of an office visit on everyone. Services include check ups, medications, vaccinations, surgery, and dentistry.     Can I keep my car? Is there other transportation available?
    Yes, many Simpson House residents maintain their vehicles, and we have designated parking spaces available. We also provide complimentary transportation to medical appointments and scheduled shopping trips. Simpson House is also located within walking distance of Philadelphia’s public transportation system, which provides easy access to friends, dining, shopping, and cultural activities.

    If my spouse requires long-term care, will I be able to stay in the apartment?
    Yes, you’ll have the benefit of staying close to your spouse in the Personal Care, Memory Care, Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing areas.

    I need to sell my home before moving into the community. Do you provide moving assistance?
    Yes! Contact us, or speak to your retirement counselor and we can help you. Our moving specialists can advise you and help you plan every part of your move. We also have close partnerships with real estate management company HOMARC, and a close partnership with Moving Solutions for downsizing. These two businesses are part of our Simpson House Solution to help our future residents move forward.

    What levels of independence and assistance are available?
    A wide range of dignified residence options are available at Simpson House. We have Personal Care that helps with daily activities on an as-needed basis, as well as services for those who may need more help in their day.

    Are all of the Personal Care suites furnished?
    Every studio apartment is furnished with a bed, nightstand, table lamp, and chair. Residents are encouraged to personalize their studio apartment with items from home such as photographs, books, artwork, televisions, and radios.

    Does every resident have his or her own private bath?
    Yes. Every studio apartment has a private bathroom; many include a large stall shower, personal shower attachment, and safety bars.

    Is transportation provided for scheduled off-campus appointments?
    Yes. Our staff will arrange transportation for residents as needed for scheduled appointments, or a family member or responsible party may elect to provide transportation.

    What are Alzheimer’s care and Memory Care?
    Specialized Alzheimer’s care and Memory Care are designed to optimize individual abilities and safety. We use an innovative, multi-sensory approach to care. Our specially trained team of professionals conducts a comprehensive initial assessment and creates customized care plans to ensure that individual needs are met. The goal is to maximize personal independence and sense of purpose.

  • Skilled Nursing

    What Is Skilled Nursing Care?
    Skilled Nursing care at Simpson House provides both short- and long-term nursing and rehabilitative care for those who need it. Individuals who require Skilled Nursing usually have difficulty with daily activities such as taking medications, walking, grooming, bathing, and using the restroom.

    What levels of Skilled Nursing are available?
    We provide a wide range of dignified options to our residents. We offer Skilled Nursing and Long-Term Care for people who need more help than their current caregiver can provide. Also available are Short-Term, Respite Care (see below), and Rehabilitative Services.

    What is Respite Care?
    Respite Care is also known as short-term care. It acts as a valuable resource for families and caregivers in the following situations:

    • A caregiver needs to travel or take care of personal or family needs
    • As an introductory stay to see if Simpson House feels right for a family member
    • A caregiver needs a break from the stress of caring for a loved one living with Alzheimer’s or other kinds of memory loss
    • A gradual way to ease a loved one into life at Simpson House.

    Short-term residents will enjoy benefits similar to those who are full time including three meals a day, snacks, and housekeeping. They will have 24/7 supervision by a licensed health care professional and assistance with any personal care needs. Respite residents can enjoy our full calendar of activities and engaging pastimes and outings.

    We provide the basics such as a bed, nightstand, table lamp, and chair. We also encourage our residents to personalize their suites with their own items. Many residents have photographs, books, artwork, television, and radios.

    Does every Skilled Nursing resident have his or her own private bath?
    Yes. Every suite includes a private bathroom. Many also include a large stall shower, personal shower attachments, and safety materials.

    Is cable television available?
    Yes, and at no extra charge.

    May residents have individual telephone service?
    Yes. This service is provided by the local phone company.

    Is transportation provided for scheduled off-campus appointments?
    Yes. Our staff will arrange complimentary transportation as needed for scheduled transportation. Residents can also be picked up by a family member or responsible party.
